Twelve Angry Jurors

The Twelve Angry Jurors is a theatrical production written by Reginald Rose. Originally, the story was a teleplay broadcasted from CBS Studio One in 1954, when the story itself took place. The teleplay was then adapted to a more traditional kind of theater. The play is about a boy who allegedly murdered his father and now twelve, very different people have to decide his fate.

All the theater productions at Swatara are joint with Central Dauphin East Middle School, allowing a wider student body to take place in the production. The cast list for this production included fourteen people:

Louis Hammond, Elliot Reber, Lauren Aurience, Kyle Hallam, Lauren Bell, Sheriba Jones, Paulina Luna, Spirit and Dynasty Jackson, Aubrie Thomas, Danielle Pierce, Rebekah Janes, Jackson Fleegal, and Molly Klose. Two performances were put on, October 26th and 27th from 7:00-8:30 PM. And of course, the play was directed by none other than our own Mr. Surmacz, an 8th grade U.S. History teacher on the Gold Team.

During an interview with Kyle Hallam and Elliot Reber, two of the cast members, we had time to conduct a little Q and A.

Q: What was the most difficult part of the performance?

A: “Trying to get my lines in on time. Timing was really important in this play so it was important to get the lines in on time,” (Kyle Hallam)

A: “Learning how to cover up lines because some people didn’t say their lines right,” (Elliot Reber)

Q: What was your favorite part about being in the production?

A: “I enjoyed being called Madam Foreman, and my outfit,” (Elliot Reber)

A: "I got to yell at lots of people in this play, and that was pretty awesome." (Kyle Hallam)
